Aruba's Caves
The Arikok National Park is home to several limestone caves that are popular with visitors to
the island. These caves are easy to maneuver making them a popular destination for
families.
The Fontein Cave is the most popular because it contains pre-Columbian drawings left by the
Caquetio Indians and also some markings left by early settlers from Europe. These are very interesting
drawings and worth a visit for those interested in the history of Aruba.
Another cave is the Guadirikiri Cave that has two openings in its roof letting sunlight into the
cave. Visitors can explore this cave without a flashlight because of the light provided by these openings.
The Huliba Cave has a heart-shaped opening and extends 300 feet. The cave does not have any natural
lighting so you’ll need flashlights to explore.
Keep in-mind that those with an aversion to bats might want to stay out of the caves. Caves are a
natural habitat for bats and while those in Aruba are not harmful in any way, they may frighten visitors.
The floors of the caves are rough - be sure to wear shoes that protect your feet.
